Costa Coffee - Burton upon Trent

Home » Case Studies » Coffee Shops » Costa Coffee – Burton upon Trent

Walsingham Planning has secured planning permission for the change of use of a former church building to be used as a Costa Coffee shop in the town centre of Burton upon Trent and within an area of flood risk.

Working with the applicant and architects on this unique scheme, creative, yet sensitive changes to the building were required to allow for the building to be fit for purpose for coffee shop use, include the introduction of plant equipment, signage and outdoor seating.

By setting out the benefits of the coffee shop to the town centre, Walsingham Planning persuaded the local planning authority that the change of use from a church and the loss of the Class D1 use would be acceptable. They welcomed the design proposals and the building’s increased interaction with the town centre, such that it could be approved under delegated powers with no pre-commencement or pre-use planning conditions attached.

The result is a highly attractive addition to the town centre in a valuable location for the applicant.
