Walsingham Planning has delivered a suite of planning permissions at The Alexandra Hospital in Cheadle, to vastly improve its operational efficiency and the quality of the site’s facilities.

The Alexandra Hospital is the greatest employer within Stockport Borough, and is the largest private hospital outside of London. However, its location within the Green Belt presented a range of challenges in seeking the further upgrade of its facilities; to meet and exceed patient demand.

In 2016 Walsingham Planning was successful in securing permission for an additional area of car parking within the site, to accommodate up to 130 spaces. To achieve this, we worked tirelessly to explain the need for these spaces, within the Green Belt, and explain how access to the site via non-car modes would simultaneously be improved via the adoption of a Travel Plan. Within this application, we also doubled the Hospital’s MRI scanning capabilities by securing an extension to the existing facility.

In 2017, we were asked to facilitate the delivery of further extensions to the site via the provision of a new Entrance Canopy and six new Consulting Rooms, replacing dated temporary structures, which were becoming obsolete.

Planning permission was promptly delivered for these extensions, which further upgrade the site’s functionality and service.

Walsingham Planning’s in-depth knowledge of addressing planning issues relevant to the health sector and within the Green Belt were key to delivering this suite of upgrades, which can now be enjoyed by the Hospital’s staff, patients and visitors.
