Walsingham Planning 30th birthday
We are very pleased and proud to be able to celebrate 30 years in practice advising clients, negotiating schemes and achieving positive outcomes.
The 100 FTSE index was started; Torvill & Dean won gold, Steve Redgrave won his first gold medal at the Los Angeles Olympics, the Miner’s Strike, Tommy Cooper dies, the Thames Barrier is opened, an earthquake in North Wales, the BT share sale to the public………and Cliff Walsingham starts a planning consultancy – 1984 a year to remember.
The Company has come a very long way from those early days in 1984 when Cliff started up with just a secretary and a handful of clients. We have grown to have 2 offices, owning one of them freehold, 17 employees and a successful record with a list of 140+ different clients active in 2013.
We underwent a name change in 2009 from Cliff Walsingham & Co to Walsingham Planning and Cliff bowed out of the business in 2011 but we have kept the same values and the same desire to achieve success with good advice and good outcomes.
We still keep to the principles which Cliff started in those early days – there is an individual member of staff responsible for every file who will always be happy to speak to the client or deal with any queries; we still spend our clients’ money as if it were our own; we are always willing to give free of charge initial advice; we believe in what we are doing.
In 2013 we made 338 planning applications to 116 different Councils across mainland UK with a 93% record of success. In 2013 alone we achieved planning permission for
- 204 houses
- 951 hotel bedrooms
- 10 coffee shops
- 20 pubs & restaurants
- 34,000sqm of commercial, education and health floor space
- 13,500sqm of retail space
Our strap line for the anniversary year is “30 years of success and still planning” – planning to carry on, planning to keep the same standards of service, planning to continue the success, planning to keep Planning.
Over the 30 years we have played a significant role in helping Premier Inn grow from a proto-type to the largest operator in the UK with over 650 hotels and we have helped Costa grow from 41 stores in 1995 to the UK’s largest coffee shop brand with 1,600 outlets.
We have chosen some of our biggest highlights spread across the 30 years but there are many other examples of our work on the newly re-launched website.
|1986||Tesco & M&S at Camberley||1995||Industrial development at St Helens|
|1996/1998 & 2002||Large hotel extensions at Forest of Arden, Dalmahoy and Sprowston Manor, Marriott hotels|
|1999||Assisting in the redevelopment of St Pancras with hotel and residential uses reintroduced|
|2001||Major commercial & residential development in Hove|
|2012||Major residential development at Broughton|
|2013||Major retail development at Altrincham|
|2013||Redevelopment of old chalets at Butlins in Minehead|
As part of the 30 year celebration we have picked a team of 6 staff to complete a London to Paris bike ride in September and for all remaining staff to travel over to Paris and welcome the cyclists in. We hope to raise a significant sum for our chosen charity MacMillan Cancer Support through sponsorship of the ride.
We wish you all the best from the last 30 years and going forward.
